Valerie Hannon
Board Director, Innovation Unit

Valerie Hannon is a global thought leader, inspiring systems to re-think what ‘success’ will mean in the C 21st, and the implications for education. The co-founder of both Innovation Unit (https://www.innovationunit.org/)   and of the Global Education Leaders Partnership (http://gelponline.org/) Valerie is a radical voice for change, whilst grounded in a deep understanding of how education systems currently work. Formerly Director of Education for Derbyshire County Council and then an adviser in the Department for Education (DfE) she now works to release and harness the creativity of practitioners in education and other public services. She was a member of the National Advisory Committee on Creativity and Cultural Education and a major contributor to the final report All Our Futures (‘The Robinson Report’). She has been consultant in support of change programmes in numerous systems, including the UK,  Australia, New Zealand, British Columbia, South Africa, Finland, and 3 US States. She is regularly engaged as consultant adviser by overseas strategic agencies (UNESCO, the OECD, Canadian Education Association, ANZSOG, The Asia Education Foundation, UNICEF, Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership, Center for Strategic Education, Melbourne); and by foundations (Gates USA; Stupski Foundation USA; Paul Hamlyn UK; Mercers Company UK; Jaume Bofill Spain; The Aga Khan Foundation;  and World Innovation Summit on Education [WISE]). Currently, she is Senior Adviser to the OECD in its Education 2030project. Valerie is a regular keynote speaker and facilitator at international conferences and workshops, drawing upon her substantial research and publications, including: Learning A Living: radical innovation in education for work (2013); Redesigning Education: shaping learning systems around the globe (2013). Creative Public Leadership (2016) (with WISE and RSA). Her latest book is THRIVE: schools reinvented for the real challenges we face (2017)
