Maria Perillo is Chief Learning Officer at ABA English. Educated as a philologist and computational linguist, she is also a localisation expert with extensive experience creating and updating e-learning products in several language combinations, including the innovative ABA English Campus and ABA’s mobile application.
Under the Language Lab research center she directs in ABA, she led the development of a state-of-the-art artificial intelligence skill for the Alexa virtual assistant, in a joint project with the Auto-Id Lab at the MIT.
Her pedagogical interests include language learning through movies, drama and emotions. More specifically, her work examines the use of subtitling and “method acting” in L2 acquisition, which are the basis for the ABA Natural Method that transfers the principles of the Direct Method to the digital environment.
